I have a buddy at work who I encouraged to do the C25K program. She was pretty fit to start with because she did a lot of bicycling with her husband. She just finished her first 5k...and WON her age group (she is age 62) with a time of 29:xx. Her pace was an average of 9:25 min/mi!! All this time I've been giving her advice..ha! She needs to give me advice. Honestly, I am not competitive but when I see someone accomplish something it gives me hope that maybe I can too. One of my goals for 2014 was to be able to run a 10 minute mile pace. I just seem so slow now.
And I guess, I've been paying too much attention to my heart rate and not enough on how I feel, and have kept my pace slow. Tonight, I only had two miles on my schedule so I decided to just see how long I could hold a ten minute mile pace. No, I didn't hold it for both miles but I did well enough to get an average pace of 10:12 min/mi. I was thrilled! Yes, it was only two miles but still, probably the fastest I've run two was around 11:00.
I can get faster......
Wow that is fantastic for her!
ReplyDeleteI'm such a slow runner too. But I'll keep working on it!
We will both be working on it!
DeleteI went through the C25K program years ago! Congrats on getting your pace down!
ReplyDeleteI've followed the C25K program also. I'm a slow runner 12-13 minute mile and would like to bring my time down also (after the holidays). :-)
ReplyDeleteMy strategy from now on is to work on my pace on my shorter weekly runs. Hold it fast for several minutes, slow up and rest, then do it again.....we can do this!
