Easing towards a 5k

I am starting this blog to document my experience with my 5k training program.  As I have searched the web trying to find other 'older' runners out there just starting out, I thought there may be some folks, like me, who are yearning to hear stories of how people started running, their age, their activity level before running, their progress, and their goals.

So, here it goes.....

I'm Rachel, age 54 (the one on the right).  My goal is to run a 5k race.  I have several planned for this year, if I can continue on this journey.

I've been an active walker for about 15 years, walking from 2-5 days a week, about 9 months out of the year. The picture was taken when my walking buddy and I walked a 5k a couple of years ago. Other than walking I have never done any other physical activities.

I was inspired by a long distance runner earlier this year and decided to set myself a goal, run a 5k.  I have osteopenia and have chosen not to take the meds for it, because at my age I think it would be better to work on building bone a more natural way. I am not overweight, no major health issues, besides an itty bitty cancer episode last year that resulted in surgery but no other treatments.

I am married to an investment planner and avid fisherman. I work full-time, enjoy other passions such as quilting, reading, photography, cooking, being frugal, and my church activities as a believer in Christ. I have another blog, Around The Blocks where I share my quilting and other interests.

I started with the C25K app but changed in week three to the Ease into 5k app for my training and am now on week four.

I would love to hear your stories of what motivated you to run, hints you've learned along the way to be more efficient, or to prevent injuries, or anything running related. I am also interested in some recommendations for cold weather running attire.
